40th annual Detroit Jazz Festival to be held from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2

The Detroit Jazz Festival is a free jazz festival that is held annually during Labor Day Weekend at Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park.

The 2019 festival will take place from August 30 to September 2, bringing back Stanley Clarke, the pioneer bass virtuoso, as the 2019 Artist-in-Residence. His scheduled sets in 2014 and 2017 were canceled because of inclement weather. In addition, Quicken Loans also returns as the presenting sponsor of the largest and also the best free jazz festival in the world. The business has held its presenting sponsorship status since 2016.

Highlight performances for the 40th Detroit Jazz Festival include Clarke’s sets focused on his successful “School Days” album and ‘Boyz in the Hood’ with the Detroit Jazz Festival Orchestra. Moreover, former Artists-in-Residence Ron Carter, Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny, Terence Blanchard, and Danilio Pérez will take a stage for the Festival.
